Breeders Cup Classic Predictions Picks 2017

Breeders Cup Classic PredictionsHere we go, the time is here. The 2017 Breeders Cup World Championships are so close we can taste it and wallets just might be itching to get in on the action. We believe in providing information to anyone who wants it and we do not believe in charging for it despite what many have told us. Why? Information is key and the more insights, opinions, numbers, or other tidbits a handicapper can get will only benefit them. Do we bet? Yes we do but we pick and choose when the logic dictates and that is what all of you should do. If you are not sure then do not bet. It does not matter if you are reading Breeders Cup Classic predictions or a maiden race on a Wednesday. If you believe then bet. If you are not sure then just watch and enjoy. Always remember that.

The Backstory – Over the years I have continued to modify how I break down each race based on input from the readers (Thank for your reading and leaving feedback over the years). That could be from any number of sites I have created content for including Sports Unbiased. However, when I started Longshot Horse Racing, I wanted to apply all I heard and get away from very granular and in-depth analysis of each horse in the field. Many claimed the reading was dry and over the top. Now you will find data about each horse, how it should shake out, and we will have a little fun doing it. If you want just the raw numbers then Brisnet, Equibase, or even the Daily Racing Form are right up your alley (and mine since I love them all) but if you want the breakdown with a twist then read on and enjoy.

Breeders Cup Classic PredictionsContenders Analysis

red saddle cloth post 1Arrogate – Horse of the year is up for grabs and this race will tell the tale. Arrogate, at his best, is the best in the world. He has won over multiple surfaces and throughout multiple countries. The knock recently is two consecutive less than Arrogate performances at Del Mar. He did win here last August but he will have to exercise the demons.

white saddle cloth post 2War Decree – Invading from across the pond after a G2 score. The challenge there is that will was against lesser and that win was over synthetic. He does have a chance but is arguably the second choice from his own barn.

blue saddle cloth post 3Win the Space – Not going to spend a ton of time here. Comes back and runs in the same race where he was eased at almost 75-1 last year. Was third in Awesome Again but that races winner is 20-1 in this field.

yellow saddle cloth post 4War Story – I cannot shake the fact that I always find myself liking him but I also cannot shake why I just will not let it go. A few starts ago he scored in the G2 Brooklyn at one and a half but at this distance or less against top level he just fails to be a match. Maybe one of these he will surprise.

green saddle cloth post 5Gun Runner – Has been absolutely dominant in recent starts and is battling Arrogate for horse of the year. He rarely misses and always comes ready to go. The point of concern is his 10 furlong form where he is winless in three tries. The Classic=10 furlongs

black saddle cloth post 6Mubtaahij – I did not like him last year and that has not really changed in any way. I will point out that the new trainer added blinkers and he scored in the Awesome Again but a big jump is still needed to compete here.

orange saddle cloth post 7Churchill – Only two invaders have scored in the Classic but they were both in the top-two at Ascot in the QEII. That is an angle that will benefit Churchill. Two glaring things are here though. First is how he will handle dirt and the second is how he will feel about the dirt. If those are okay and he is at his best there is a chance here.

violet saddle cloth post 8West Coast – He is the top three-year-old in the country and winner of five straight. He will be entering the starting gate against older for the first time. He has all the talent in the world and can win this race. I expect him to go off as a close third around 3-1 and that is a short price to ask in this race. Capable? Of course but I cannot promise I will bet him at the expected price.

teal saddle cloth post 9Gunnevera – Earlier in the year this was a horse that many were interested in but how the world changes. Nothing to great until a big second to West Coast in the Travers. But even that was a non-factoring second. Appears to be in way over his head here but will be coming late and if a Travers was a sign of a big step then you will get paid.

dark purple saddle cloth post 10Pavel – Here lies a late bloomer who did not come on the scene until the summer. A ton of talent in this one. Scored in G3 Smarty Jones and was an even more impressive third against older in the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at a mile and a quarter. He has improved in each start and no reason to think he will not be a monster next year. The question is, can he factor in this year’s Classic. Personally I think so.

grey saddle cloth post 11Collected – Here lies the horse that took care of Arrogate in the Pacific Classic this summer which means he can score, he likes Del Mar and 10 furlongs are fine with him.  Winner of eight out of 11 in his career. Point of note is he wired the field in the Pacific Classic so no reason to think the strategy will be any different here. Can he hold off Arrogate and others again? From a betting perspective he will get slightly overlooked given the top-three and you could see 8-1 or 10-1.
